Amit Kak

Amit Kak was born in Shalla Kadal (Srinagar). He was initiated into music by his parents Mr. Ashok and Mrs. Veena Kak. He started singing in school functions at an early age of four. His main interests in music include Indian classical, Thumri and Ghazals. Kashmiri music and poetry is also something he holds very close to his heart.

Amit was one of the four participants representing BITS, Pilani in Zee TV Antakshari in 1997. Amit has received training in Indian classical music from Ms. Nivedita Dutt. In addition to singing, Amit also likes to compose music and play his guitar.

He is very grateful to Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Kailash Mehra, Vijay Malla and Arti Tiku. Amit believes them as also his gurus. He remembers how his father used to get audio cassettes of these singers and Amit used to rehearse those during his early initiation.

Amit holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's Degree in System Software from BITS, Pilani. He currently resides in San Diego, CA with his wife Priyanka and two children, Arsheya and Aayush.
