Chapter 34
Some Couplets from Great Kashmiri Poets
1.
|
Being born, I
didn't crave for fame.
Neither did I attach to
greed and luxury.
Moderate eating sufficed me.
I bore travails and sought
God.
- Lal Ded |
2.
|
Oh man! Why are you trying
to twine ropes of stand ?
This rope will not pull the
boat, my dear.
Whatever God has written in
your fate,
Nobody can ever alter that,
my dear.
-Lal Ded |
3.
|
What can you do with these
five, ten or eleven ?
Those who have stirred this
pot.
If only all were to pull the
same rope,
Why on earth would they all
be confused/chaotic.
-Lal Ded |
4.
|
Whom are you worshipping
with flowers?
Any which way are you
offering Namaz ?
Better worship thyself;
You are the Kaba; you are
the temple.
- Mahjoor Sahab |
5.
|
Milk is muslim, Hindu is
sugar, pure & clean.
Mix the milk and the sugar
together.
Hindus will steer and the
muslims will paddle,
And together row the
nation's boat.
- Mahjoor Sahab |
6.
|
The ferryman is about to
cross the river.
He shouts aloud,
"Anyone there, who
wants to cross?
You won't get the chance
again.
Don't procrastinate !
Anyone wishing to cross
?"
- Master Zinda Kaul |
