Pt. Shri Tej Krishen Jalali

A noted classical vocalist, violinist and music director.

Masters degree in Indian Classical Vocal music from Jiwaji University Gwalior with 1st class 1st position in 1968.

Exponent of Traditional Gwalior Gharana, An acclaimed Guru, performing artist and composer. Trained by great masters viz Pandit Chidanand Nagarkar at Mumbai and Pandit Balasahib Poochwale of Gwalior for over 10 years.

Functioned as Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts Srinagar and Jammu, the two premier art institutions of the state for over 25 years.

Functioned as Dean Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and member of Academic Council in the Universities of Kashmir and Jammu for well over a decade. Was instrumental in getting the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts instituted in University of Kashmir in 1975-76.

Functioned as an expert on several panels for recruitment of Staff Artiste and Composers in Radio/Doordarshan and Lecturers/Professors in various statutory universities of the country.

Functioned as a member of Audition Committee, in All India Radio Srinagar and Jammu and also as a member Programme Advisory Committee of All India Radio Srinagar during 1986-88

Composed music for various stage operas, musical concerts, title songs, radio features, and numerous Radio and Television programmes for more than four decades, featuring songs in Kashmiri, Hindi, Urdu, Gogri, Sanskrit and Dogri Languages.

Trained several performing Artistes of J & K state, prominent amongst them being Arti Tiku Kaul, Archana Jalali Tikoo, M.K Raina, Maharaj Krishan Pandita, Dalip Langoo, Kamlesh Handoo, Dost Mohammad Khan, Chetna Kaul of Srinagar and Kalpana Kesar,  Jasmeet  Kaur, Chinmay Sharma, Roshni Shamnotra, Shruti Kapoor, Neha Kapoor, Navin Sharma of Jammu. Prominent Singers Kailash Mehra, Shamim  Dev Azad. Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, Sunaina Kaul and Kiran Kaul also benefitted a great deal in polishing their musical skills during their long association with the acclaimed Guru/Composer.

Recorded an E.P disc as Composer, in Calcutta in 1978, featuring Shamim Dev Azad, an acclaimed singer of J&K State.

Composed music for hit Kashmiri number “Katyu chuk nund bane” sung by internationally famous singer Runa Laila of Bangladesh.

Composed music for Album”Mani Kaamna” sponsored by Kashmiri Overseas Association of USA in late ninetees. The album, a collection of Kashmiri devotional songs featured prominent singers Arti Tiku Kaul and Archana Jalali Tikoo.

Composed music for nationally acclaimed TV serial “Kashmir File” a current affairs programme laying a great emphasis on the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, produced by nationally acclaimed film maker Pt Arun Kaul for Vyeth Television which ran for about 2 years on DD National, DD International and DD CNN.

Scored music for Albums “Ethnic Music of Kashmir” Vol 1&2 produced by Vyeth Television New Delhi containing popular melodies featured in the weekly serial “Kashmir File”.

Represented J&K State in various Interstate cultural exchanges programmed at Delhi, Patna, Lucknow, Hydrabad and West Bengal. Composed and directed all music concerts during these programmes which were witnessed among others by the Chief Ministers of these states and Prime Minister and President of the country.

Led a cultural delegation of the state of J&K to Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies and U.S.A in 1983 sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Trade Fair Authority in India. Composed and directed all the musical concerts during the tour witnessed among others by the Presidents of Venezuela, Trinidad and other dignitaries in the U.S.A.

Scored music the Album “Soz-e-Dil” a collection of Kashmiri Sufi melodies featuring Archana Jalali Tikoo, an acclaimed singer in 2007.

Presently devoting major time and attention in training young budding Vocalists in Hindustani Classical music in tradional “Guru Shishya Parampara” at Jammu in order to give a boost to the dying popularity of this great art form of the state.
