Acknowledgments
This work is the result of years of effort and
refinement. The original symbols that were used in ourfirst draft more than
twelve years ago, have been greatly modified and improved upon. Many people have
helped us along the way, and we are grateful to them all for their interest and
ideas. We would, however, wish to place on record our sincere thanks to the
following people:
* Mr Pran Nath Trisal and Ashok
R. Kelkar of Pune, who discussed the matter with us, way back in 1982; and whose
article on "Kashmiri Word Phonology" (1964) gave insights.
* Mr Braj K. Kachru, renowned
researcher and author, who in the course of his work in the US has created
considerable interest in the Kashmiri language and its literature, and who has
been an inspiration.
* Mr KamakRya Banerjee, who also
inspired us to go ahead and print our primer; and who was able to galvanize his
entire team to take up the challenge. Our thanks go out especially to Mr Ashok
Maity, an artist of high calibre, who was able to ensure that the diacritical
marks came out just the way we wanted them, along with his colleagues Mr. Samir
Ghosh and Mr. Suresh Sh.mp3a, who used the computer with great skill.
