A CONVERSATION WITH A FLOWER SELLER
|
A
conversation about buying flowers from a woman flower seller. These are
sold fresh from shikaras, which go from houseboat to houseboat. There are
also a few shops which sell flowers. In the city, a vegetable seller keeps
seasonal flowers, such as lotuses and marigolds, which are used by the
Kashmiri Pandits for the morning prayers.
|
Flower seller:
Would you like to buy (some) flowers, sir?
Ashok: Yes,
what kind of flowers do you have?
Flower seller:
(Here) you see (I have) roses, lotuses, and narcissi.
Ashok: Are
these flowers fresh?
Flower seller:
Yes, sir, these are absolutely fresh flowers. You may see (for yourself).
Ashok: All
right. How much are roses?
Flower seller:
The roses are two rupees a bouquet.
Ashok: What
price are lotuses and narcissi?
Flower seller:
A bouquet of lotuses or narcissi is one rupee.
Ashok: All
right, give me (some) roses and (some) lotuses.
Flower seller:
(Do you want) red or yello roses?
Ashok: (Not
yellow) red ones.
Flower seller:
Here, please take them.
Ashok: How
much money will that be?
Flower seller:
Three rupees.
Ashok: I
have a five rupee bill.
Flower seller:
That is all right. I have change.
Ashok: All
right, (I hope you will) come again tomorrow.
