A CONVERSATION AT THE POST OFFICE
|
This concerns a conversation at
the post office between a postal clerk and a tourist (Ashok) about buying
various types of postage items such as, stamps, inland a.mp3ail letters,
aerograms, etc.
A serious task such as mailing
registered letters or packages is a test of endurance and patience. But, by and
large, things get done and the mail keeps moving.
|
Ashok: (Please) give me stamps for ten
rupees.
Clerk: What denomination, sir?
Ashok: Three for the United States, two for
Delhi, and could you also give me four aerograms?
Clerk: Here are the stamps and the
aerograms, and here is (your) change.
Ashok: Thank you. This letter is to be sent
by registered mail.
Clerk: A.mp3ail, or (would you prefer)
surface mail?
Ashok: No, a.mp3ail.
Clerk: All right, give it to me. I shall
weigh it.
Ashok: Take it, please.
Clerk: It will cost four rupees.
Ashok: All right, here is a five rupee
bill.
Clerk: Here is your receipt, and here is
the change.
Ashok: All right, thank you.
