NOTES

  • Hazratbal is a Muslim shrine situated on the western bank of Dal Lake. This shrine is well-known, because Hazrat Mohammed's sacred hair (mo:yiva:l) is preserved in it. Hazrat Muhammed is the founder-prophet of Islam.
  • Kashmir University was founded in 1947. The campus is situated on Nigin Lake.
  • The n'ama:z is the Muslim prayer. On each Friday, a large congregation of Muslims assembles in the Hazratbal Mosque to offer their n'ama:z.
